Onions is a Pre-recorded promenade theatre piece. Where an audience, or in this case, the “travelers” start in one location and are guided through head phones from station to station. The “travelers” are weaved in out of the historic campus of the University of Texas at Austin until the very end, where they finally brought back together. This is an experimental bit of theatre that examines COVID isolation and explores the question of what will we do once we are free to connect once again.

This piece had the challenge of finding affordable battery powered rental lights that are IP rated. I originally requested an American DJ LED par fixtures, but there was a miscommunication and I ended up with American DJ element HexIP fixtures. In the end, overall light output and control was the same. The big difference was that the HexIPs where designed for up light. So, I actually ended up focusing on little piles of rocks. Not the most “high-tech” solution, but it worked for our experimental purposes.
